What a Wild Ride…
I remember the exact place I was standing when I decided to commit to my book writing journey. It was February 2020, I was standing on the beach in Dominican Republic watching the waves crash onto the shore and the kite boarders defying the wind and surf. COVID 19 was some strange thing going on over in China, but moving fast. I had just made the decision to call it quits on an online business I had been working on for over two years. I invested a shit ton of money in it and there was still little to no movement. I knew it was time.
Even though I walked away from that business, it really catapulted me onto a new and necessary path to living my best life and inspiring others to do the same.
I learned so much on that business journey, even though I lost a ton of money, I don’t regret it. I was able to travel back and forth across the US in my little caravan, stayed in beautiful places and talked with lots of people, and I mean a lot.
At this point, I had been to so many seminars and workshops that my name automatically appeared on the sign-up list. I was in Dominican Republic at the time attending a small speaking academy, learning how to give a signature speech and tell stories. The beach and the storytelling made me realize what I really wanted to do was to talk to people and share my experiences. Help inspire them to not just lay down over 60 but to live an active and purpose filled life, kick-ass second half. That very day was the beginning of my book Fuck Aging!
Immediately after my time there, I got busy. I love making lists so that’s what I did. Half the time making lists is my subtle form of procrastination, but this time I was motivated. I made one list of what I wanted to do if someone had the magic wand. Then another list was my “Whys”. A third list was what I was doing right at that moment and was I joyful about it? Did it bring me a sense of satisfaction? This was pretty revealing!
Good-bye Facebook Ads, Landing pages, Host Gator and other support sites. I didn’t miss them one bit. Through the network that I had built over the prior two years, I was able to find the right publisher and put together my marketing team. I went through many uninspiring days and was grateful for the days that were filled with ideas and inspirations. I learned to love both. I was now living a life with deadlines, zoom meetings and a ton of edits but I was living my purpose, on a mission.
There were many times during covid that I didn’t like my book. When I turned it in for my first edit, were no longer friends. It took about 8 months to edit my book and through that time I decided to pair a motivation online course with it. So, I headed from Mexico (where I was living at the time in 2021) to California and spent 3 days laying out my course and taping videos. In the middle of taping, I was tasked with choosing a title for my almost fully edited book. My publicist and I were in between tapings and it hit us like a ton of inspirational bricks falling from the sky, bonking us on the head all at once. I knew that I wanted to shake up my audience’s thinking, get people to pause in place and really, truly, make no excuses and make the necessary changes to live a kick-ass second half of their life. So there I was, removing the old school thinking, shaking it up, committed to starting a movement…together and say Fuck Aging! Let’s forget about our number, the amount of time on earth and instead change our language from aging to upgrading in our lives (or leveling up, that works too!).
I am excited to share my book and course with you, set to launch in March/April of this year. Please join me on this movement. We are a much-needed generation (as you will read about in my book) and we will be doing the world a grave disservice if we don’t fully live and contribute in our second half.
In closing, I’d like to add that during my adventure and throughout, I became more patient, learned to slow down and take care of myself. It wasn’t easy, but it was and continues to be worth it. So, whatever your dreams and desires, don’t give up. Look at your reasons for wanting to meet your goals and believe in yourself and look around for people who can help you. They are out there.
